Ozzie’s story

For 11-year-old Ozzie, gaming club has been transformative. His mum, Kirsten, explains:

“When he comes to gaming group, it’s like a chance to get away from your home environment. When he comes to gaming group he’s very calm. he’s like a different boy. He sits there, he’s focused, he’s just like a joy to watch. I can actually relax and so can Ozzie – you just see a transformation, it’s really nice.”

Allsorts Gaming Club

Gaming isn’t just about screens and video games. For Ozzie it’s a chance to relax but also be able to focus, in a safe, welcoming space. It’s his time to build in Minecraft, play at his own pace and share something he loves with others.

But gaming club is just one of the ways Ozzie has developed at Allsorts. He also takes part in our recreational football sessions.

“When Ozzie first started football he only used to play a little bit, but now after a few years, he takes part in all of it. It’s just nice to see his enthusiasm, to watch him playing with other children and just being really happy.”

Gaming and football is just one part of Ozzie and Kirsten’s Allsorts journey, with Allsorts just as valuable for Kirsten as it has been to Ozzie.

“It’s nice knowing there’s staff here you can talk to and you’re not judged. You’re not alone really. Sometimes you feel that it’s just you going through all of this, when actually, there’s a lot of other people as well.”

Why gaming club is special

Our gaming club is designed for fun, friendship and growth, as Gemma, who runs the club, explains:

“Gaming club is special because of the friendly atmosphere. Everyone comes along to enjoy themselves, and that shared interest sparks conversation and friendships. We’ve recently introduced motion games on the Wii to support balance and coordination, alongside creative games for those interested in design. We’ve got Xbox, Wii, Playstation and Nintendo Switch – something for everyone!”
