Virtual Easter Balloon Race from Quito, Ecuador!

Race date: Sunday 9th April 2023

Help us fundraise £500 for Allsorts! It costs £140 a day to run the Activity Hub in Stroud which is the location for many supports groups including our Toddler and Grandparents Groups, as well as our Young Adults and Teens Friday Night Clubs!

How it works

You purchase balloons at £3 per balloon, either for yourself or as a gift (you’ll need to create an account first). The balloons are launched and the 3 which travel the furthest win a prize. You can purchase as many balloons as you like by clicking here.

The deadline for buying balloons is 11.59am on 9th April and the race kicks off at 12noon that day!

Your balloon

On the dashboard you can ‘customise’ each balloon by changing various parameters of the balloon size, shape and composition to enhance your chances of winning.

Reflecting real life, virtual balloons just like latex ones, can pop if the balloon parameters are not suited to the weather. For example, maximising helium content in stormy weather is not advised, so looking at the predicted weather for your race period prior to customisation helps your chances of winning.

Lots more fun can be had decorating your balloon with all sorts of colours, patterns, and a personalised message. Remember that you can return back to your dashboard and change elements of your balloon or redecorate as often as you like right up to a race launch time and date.

The launch

The balloons will be virtually launched on Sunday 9th April at 12noon. By clicking on ‘balloons’ on the race homepage, you will see the leading 100 balloons listed. The information shows straight line distance travelled in kilometres from the launch point, plus the balloon’s latitude and longitude.

The race will last 7 days and the winning balloon is the one that has flown the furthest in a straight line from the launch location. More information can be found here.

1st place – £100 cash
2nd place – Amazon Alexa / Echo Dot 4th Generation!

Prize for the fastest Allsorts balloon

£50 Amazon Voucher!

We get a percentage of each balloon purchased, so the more balloons flying for Allsorts, the more money we can raise! ❤️

Good luck everyone!

The Allsorts Rural Short Breaks Project

Our members often ask us to provide activities where they live and we would love to do this more. It therefore created much delight within Team Allsorts when the Short Break team at Gloucestershire County Council approached us for ideas on how we can support more families of children with additional need in rural areas.

In November and December, we worked in the rural areas of Stinchcombe and Chalford, taking a van load of toys and our new magic carpet out to village halls. We provided children, ages 0-8, with lots of opportunities to play, take part in sports, use our toy library, play in our sensory area and generally have fun. We were able to give parents information and support and gained lots of new Allsorts members.

After the first couple of weeks, we were able to offer a short break for the children over age 6 and some families took advantage of this chance for a break from their caring role.

So far, we have had 105 attendances and are loving witnessing the fun and friendship that the project is generating. The council hope to commission a soft play bus to join us in our next adventures so keep an eye out as we plan our next travels into rural areas.

HOW DOES IT WORK
You pick your distance using a set number of miles, so that could be 1, 10 or 50 depending on your challenge. Decide how you are going to complete the challenge i.e. in a wheelchair, on a space hopper, running, walking, cycling, scooting… the options are endless! Set your sponsorship target by either using our guide of £50 per person or £100 per family or setting your own goal.

**All funds raised will help Allsorts rebuild activities and support for young people with additional needs in Gloucestershire**

HOW DO I REGISTER
You can register through the Allsorts website from Monday 14th September. Registration costs £5 per person or £10 per family from the same household. Once signed up you’ll receive a registration pack which will give you some ideas on where you could complete your challenge safely and how to get sponsorship. Inside the pack will be some materials to help you promote your challenge.

The main event day will be 11th October, but you can do your challenge whenever suits you. If the weather is a bit rubbish, you can always move it – just let your sponsors know!
